  1. I applaud your efforts to use data analysis to rate teams. Point differential obviously has holes but again I think it can be valuable when it is measured quarter by quarter. If you don’t have the time and resources to evaluate out of state teams I know you don’t have time to evaluate point differential by quarter. The other stat I think that you consider when doing opponents winning percentage is deduct from the figure the team’s that your evaluating’s own record. It is easier to give an example. Let’s say team A is 14-10 and let’s say their opponents are 150-130. Now I think it is a better evaluation if you deduct the 14-10 record of team A from the opponent’s record and say that they are 136-120 in games NOT played against Team A. In this way Team A is not lowering their own opponents records by beating them and a poor team is not raising their opponent’s record by losing. Just some food for thought.
