Located at AM 950 on the radio dial, 95 The Sports Fox (WBES) will bring Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia to the heart of MSAC country, which features some of the best basketball programs in the state. Student-athletes and fans at Capital, Charleston Catholic, George Washington, Herbert Hoover, Hurricane, Nitro, Poca, Riverside, South Charleston, St. Albans and Winfield high schools will be able to tune in to Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia on the radio. Additionally, basketball fans traveling to Charleston from across the state will be able to hear Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia during the state basketball tournaments in March.

WBES is Basketball Friday Night’s 15th affiliate radio station. With the addition of WBES, Basketball Friday Night now reaches listeners in 28 West Virginia counties. Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia is hosted by Ryan Epling and Tolsia Rebels girls basketball coach Ric Morrone every Friday night during basketball season from the WMUL-FM studios at Marshall University.

“WMUL-FM Huntington and WFGH-FM Fort Gay are pleased that Bristol Broadcasting has decided to become an affiliate of our cooperative, live high school basketball programing during the 2016-2017 season,” said Dr. Charles G. Bailey, faculty adviser of flagship station WMUL-FM. “WBES’ on-air signal will be a tremendous addition for the high school fans in the Kanawha Valley and surrounding areas seeking to know scores of the girls and boys high school basketball games being played throughout West Virginia each Friday night. In addition, Marshall’s journalism school has a growing relationship with Bristol Broadcasting. The company provides current Marshall students with internships and has employed Marshall journalism school graduates over the past few years. I think this ongoing relationship will only be strengthened through this affiliate agreement that will certainly benefit all parties involved.”

Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia will be a strong addition to Bristol Broadcasting Company’s portfolio of local and regional sports talk shows. WBES is the home of “The Brandon Lowe Show,” a variety sports talk show hosted by Brandon Lowe, and Marshall graduate and WMUL-FM alumnus Nick McKendree, weekdays at 5 p.m. The Brandon Lowe Show features locally and nationally-known athletes and guests, along with daily sports news and commentary. Lowe and McKendree also host the “High School Football Blitz,” which features local high school football previews, halftime scores and final scores on Bristol Broadcasting stations WQBE and WVSR in Charleston.

“I just want to welcome Basketball Friday Night to the Bristol Broadcasting family,” Lowe said. “It was a no-brainer to add a show that brings entertaining, informative, and refreshing coverage of high school basketball all across the great state of West Virginia. WMUL-FM produces some of the brightest, innovative, and creative minds in broadcast journalism, and Basketball Friday Night exemplifies those qualities.”

WBES-AM 950 can be heard on the radio throughout much of Kanawha and Putnam Counties, as well as parts of Boone, Cabell, Jackson, Lincoln and Roane counties at night. Visit WBES online at 95thesportsfox.com.

The first show of Basketball Friday Night in West Virginia’s fourth season will be broadcast live December 9, 2016.
