The Chapmanville Tigers used an explosive third quarter to prevail with a 57-40 win over the upset-minded Lincoln Cougars on Friday to earn a spot in Saturday’s AA state championship game.

Lincoln stayed in the game through the half, with the Tigers going into the locker room with a 22-21 lead, but the Tigers went 13-for-24 from field goal range and 5-for-8 on three-point attempts in the second half, and outscored the Cougars 20-7 in the third quarter. Dylan Smith capped off the third with two three-point shots in the last two minutes of the third quarter.

6-foot-8 Obinna Killen led the Tigers with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocks. Chase Riley led Lincoln with 19 points.

Chapmanville will face the winner of the Fairmont Senior / Mingo Central game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the AA state championship.
